GOPIO-Manhattan officially inducted its new leadership team for the 2026–27 term during a ceremony at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Manhattan. The event brought together community leaders, members and dignitaries, highlighting the organisation’s continued commitment to community service, cultural engagement and strengthening ties within the Indian diaspora in New York
The Manhattan chapter of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO-Manhattan) has officially inducted its new leadership team for the 2026–27 term during a ceremony held at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Manhattan on 17 May 2026.
Founded in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, GOPIO-Manhattan has continued to grow as a platform for community service, cultural engagement and support for the Indian diaspora in New York.
The oath-taking event brought together members, supporters, community leaders and dignitaries in a spirit of unity and cooperation. Senior GOPIO International leaders, including Chairman Dr Thomas Abraham, President Prakash Shah and General Secretary Siddarth Jain, attended the programme and extended their support to the newly elected team.

President-Elect Prof. Rajasekhar Vangapaty welcomed guests and shared his vision for an inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership

Dr Abraham, who chaired the Election Committee, spoke about GOPIO’s global journey and its work in connecting people of Indian origin across the world
Prakash Shah highlighted upcoming GOPIO initiatives, including the GOPIO Convention in Mumbai, before administering the oath of office to the Executive Committee, Board of Trustees and Board Members.
The newly elected Executive Committee is led by Prof. Rajasekhar Vangapaty as President. Other office-bearers include Bhavya Gupta as Executive Vice President, Dr Vimal Goyle as Vice President, Raj Punjabi as Secretary, Braj Aggarwal as Treasurer and Gagan Gujral as Joint Secretary.
New York Democratic Congressional Primary candidate Vichal Kumar congratulated the team and encouraged greater civic participation within the community.
