The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday said it is keeping a close watch on the Ebola situation after recent outbreaks were reported in parts of Africa. The alert comes as a person with a recent travel history from Uganda has been isolated in Bengaluru after showing possible symptoms linked to the virus.
According to health officials, the individual complained of mild body ache and was admitted to the state-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital for observation and further checks. Authorities said the person is otherwise stable and in good health.
A sample has been sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing, and the results are awaited. Officials added that there is no reason for panic at the moment, but precautionary steps are being followed to avoid any possible spread of infection
The Health Ministry said it is regularly reviewing the global Ebola situation and remains in contact with state health departments. Surveillance at airports and other entry points has also been strengthened to identify travellers who may show symptoms linked to the disease.
Ebola is a serious viral illness that spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids. Symptoms can include fever, weakness, muscle pain and bleeding in severe cases. Health experts say early detection and isolation are important to prevent transmission.
