Travellers advised to carry mandatory documents as Thailand revises immigration rules
Indian citizens planning to visit Thailand will now need to comply with stricter entry requirements after Thai authorities ended the visa-free travel arrangement that had been available since 2024, restoring the Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) system for Indian passport holders. The revised rules are aimed at strengthening immigration controls while ensuring smoother border checks for genuine visitors.
Under the new framework, Indian travellers must obtain a Visa on Arrival at designated entry points or apply for an electronic visa before travelling, depending on the purpose and duration of their visit. Visitors are also required to complete the mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before departure, replacing the earlier paper-based arrival form.
Thai immigration authorities have advised travellers to carry a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and sufficient financial resources to cover their stay. Immigration officials may request these documents at the port of entry before granting permission to enter the country.

The policy shift follows concerns over misuse of visa exemptions, including overstays and unauthorised employment by some foreign visitors

Thai officials have said the tighter rules are intended to improve immigration management rather than discourage tourism
Thailand remains one of the most popular overseas destinations for Indian tourists, attracting millions of visitors annually for holidays, business travel and short-term leisure trips. Authorities have urged travellers to verify the latest visa requirements before departure, as immigration regulations may be updated periodically.
Travel experts have also advised passengers to check airline guidance and official Thai government notifications before booking or commencing their journey to avoid delays or denied boarding due to incomplete documentation.
