Zero-duty access expected to strengthen India’s position in the global toy industry and boost manufacturing
India’s toy industry is preparing for a significant rise in exports following the implementation of new free trade agreements with the United Kingdom and the European Union, which are expected to provide Indian manufacturers with improved access to two major international markets.
Industry representatives said the agreements will eliminate import duties on Indian-made toys, making them more competitive against products from other exporting nations. The development is expected to encourage higher exports, attract fresh investment and create employment across the sector.
The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is scheduled to come into force on 15 July after the Finance Ministry notified the rules of origin required for exporters to claim preferential tariff benefits. The rules are designed to ensure that only products genuinely manufactured in India qualify for duty concessions under the agreement.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has urged domestic toy manufacturers to make full use of India’s expanding network of free trade agreements and work towards increasing the country’s share in the global toy market. He has also stressed the importance of maintaining high quality standards, strengthening design capabilities and adopting sustainable manufacturing practices to meet international demand.

India’s toy industry has undergone a marked transformation in recent years, supported by policy measures aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing, improving product quality and reducing dependence on imports

Manufacturers believe the new trade agreements will further accelerate this progress by opening larger export opportunities in developed markets
The industry is also optimistic that easier market access to Europe, alongside the UK agreement, will help Indian companies diversify exports and build stronger global supply chains. As demand for safe, high-quality and environmentally responsible toys continues to grow, Indian exporters expect the trade pacts to enhance the country’s reputation as a reliable manufacturing hub and support long-term export growth.
