Young members of the Indian diaspora encouraged to reconnect with their roots through cultural exchange initiative
The Consulate General of India in Los Angeles has invited applications for the 88th edition of the Know India Programme (KIP), a flagship initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs aimed at strengthening ties between India and its young diaspora.
The programme will be held in India from 16 to 29 August 2026 and offers participants an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to the country’s cultural heritage, economic progress, technological innovation and governance. Applications must be submitted by 16 July 2026.
The initiative is designed for eligible young members of the Indian diaspora, including Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), within the prescribed age group. Through interactions with government institutions, educational organisations, start-ups and cultural centres, participants will gain a broader understanding of contemporary India while exploring their ancestral connections.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Know India Programme seeks to familiarise diaspora youth with India’s achievements in areas such as science and technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, arts, heritage and economic development. The programme also encourages greater engagement between overseas Indians and India’s ongoing development initiatives.
Since its launch in 2003-04, the programme has brought together thousands of young people of Indian origin from across the world, providing them with opportunities to interact with policymakers, community leaders and fellow participants from different countries
The initiative has become one of the government’s key diaspora outreach programmes, promoting stronger cultural and people-to-people links.
Interested applicants under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India in Los Angeles are required to submit the prescribed application form along with supporting documents before the deadline. Selected candidates will travel to India for the two-week programme, which combines educational sessions, cultural activities and visits to important institutions and historical sites.
