India and Oman have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their longstanding strategic partnership, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressing gratitude to the Omani government for its assistance to Indian seafarers affected by recent regional tensions.

During his official visit to Muscat, Jaishankar held wide-ranging talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, covering the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defence, maritime security and regional developments, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

A key part of the meeting was India’s appreciation for Oman’s prompt support to Indian seafarers during the recent security challenges in West Asia. The acknowledgement comes after heightened tensions in the region disrupted commercial shipping routes and raised concerns over the safety of maritime personnel, including Indian nationals serving aboard international vessels.

  • The two ministers also exchanged views on the evolving security situation in the Gulf and stressed the importance of ensuring safe navigation and stability in the region

  • They agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual interest and continue consultations on regional and global developments

India and Oman share deep historical, economic and people-to-people ties. Oman hosts one of the largest Indian expatriate communities in the Gulf and remains India’s closest defence partner in the region. The two countries have steadily expanded cooperation through regular political dialogue, joint military exercises, maritime collaboration and growing commercial engagement.

Jaishankar’s visit forms part of his broader diplomatic tour of West Asia, aimed at reinforcing India’s partnerships with key regional countries. Officials said both sides remain committed to further strengthening the India-Oman Strategic Partnership in line with shared interests in regional stability, economic growth and closer bilateral engagement.
