Short multilingual videos are helping Indian embassies simplify consular procedures and improve outreach to overseas citizens
Indian diplomatic missions are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled videos to make consular services more accessible and user-friendly for the Indian diaspora, as part of a wider effort to modernise public outreach and improve communication with citizens abroad.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has encouraged several Indian embassies and consulates to produce short AI-assisted videos explaining key consular procedures, including passport renewals, visa services, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) documentation, emergency assistance and other frequently requested services. The initiative aims to present official information in a simple and engaging format that is easier for people to understand.

Officials said the AI-generated content allows missions to quickly create multilingual videos featuring digital presenters and voiceovers, reducing the time and cost involved in producing conventional informational material

The videos are designed to answer common queries and guide applicants through official processes, helping reduce confusion and improve the overall user experience
The move is particularly significant for Indian missions serving large expatriate communities across regions such as the Gulf, North America, Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia. By providing clear visual explanations, missions hope to minimise documentation errors and ease pressure on consular staff handling routine enquiries.
The AI-based outreach forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to leverage emerging technologies to enhance citizen-centric services. While traditional communication channels, including websites and social media platforms, remain in use, officials believe AI-powered visual content can improve accessibility and reach a wider audience.
The initiative reflects India’s growing adoption of AI in public service delivery, with diplomatic missions using the technology not only to streamline communication but also to strengthen engagement with millions of Indians living and working overseas.
