Massachusetts authorities say the 17-year-old had made disturbing online searches before the deaths; investigation into the motive continues
A 17-year-old Indian-origin teenager has been charged with the alleged murders of his mother and younger brother at their home in Acton, Massachusetts, in a case that has shocked the local community and drawn attention to disturbing online activity linked to the teenager.
The accused, identified as Arjun Aravind, was taken into custody after police found his 45-year-old mother, Sudha Venkatesan, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind, dead inside the family home. Authorities said both victims had suffered severe traumatic injuries. Their precise causes of death are pending a medical examiner’s report.
Police were alerted after Arjun’s father became concerned when he was unable to contact family members. A tutor had also reportedly been unable to gain access to the house. Officers subsequently discovered the bodies and launched a search for the teenager.
Investigators said Arjun had left the property in his mother’s car. He was later located in the nearby town of Wayland and arrested without incident, according to reports
Authorities have also uncovered a series of troubling internet searches and conversations allegedly involving the teenager. Investigators said he had used online tools, including ChatGPT, to explore violent fantasies and create fictional scenarios involving harm to family members. The activity is being examined as part of the investigation into whether the killings were planned.
Arjun faces two murder charges as well as additional allegations including assault and battery and unauthorised use or theft of a motor vehicle. He has already appeared in court over the vehicle-related charges and is expected to face the murder charges in Concord District Court.
Authorities have not publicly established a motive. The investigation remains ongoing, while the community continues to grapple with the deaths of the mother and her teenage son.
