Indian missions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have planned flag-hoisting ceremonies, a global Tiranga relay and digital campaigns as the Indian community joins celebrations
The UAE’s Indian community is preparing to mark India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15 with a series of events organised by Indian diplomatic missions and community groups.
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai will hold their main celebrations from 6.30am on Saturday, with the national flag scheduled to be unfurled at 7am. Ambassador Deepak Mittal will hoist the Tricolour at the embassy, while Consul General E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy will lead the ceremony in Dubai. The events are open to members of the Indian community and friends of India.
A major feature this year is the Surya Path Tiranga relay, which will connect Indian diplomatic missions across different time zones as the sun rises from east to west. The symbolic relay is planned to link missions from Fiji to the United States, creating a continuous global display of the Indian flag.

The celebrations will also include digital initiatives. Indian residents in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have been invited to submit 30-second Instagram reels, while those in Abu Dhabi can share one-minute videos about what India means to them. Selected entries are expected to be featured on the missions’ social media platforms.
The Bharat Ko Janiye quiz will also return for the Independence Day celebrations, with participants answering questions about India in a timed online contest.
The UAE’s Indian community, the country’s largest expatriate population, is expected to take part in the celebrations through flags, cultural programmes and online initiatives as India marks eight decades of independence.
