BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Bussy-Saint-Georges will be inaugurated during a 13-day Festival of Culture celebrating Hindu and Indian heritage
France is set to open its first major traditional Hindu temple with the inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Bussy-Saint-Georges, near Paris, in September.
The temple’s opening will be marked by a 13-day Festival of Culture from September 2 to 14, bringing together devotees, members of the Indian diaspora and visitors from different countries. The celebrations will highlight Hindu traditions, Indian heritage, spirituality, music and cultural practices.
The BAPS organisation said the festival was launched globally through satsang assemblies in March and April ahead of the inauguration. Mahant Swami Maharaj is expected to bless the opening and participate in the celebrations.

French media reports said the festival could attract several thousand visitors, with participants from dozens of nationalities and the support of thousands of volunteers. A public procession is also planned as part of the programme.
The inauguration is being seen as an important milestone for France’s Hindu community and the wider Indian diaspora. It is also expected to add a prominent new cultural landmark to the Paris region, reflecting the growing visibility of Indian traditions in France.
