As per government’s circular, Rajamony’s appointment is part-time for one year, and he will be based in Delhi
The Indian state of Kerala appointed a retired Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer as a nodal person to interact with the central government, foreign and Indian diplomatic missions and agencies, news agency ANI reported.
The State Government appointed Venu Rajamony as its Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for the purpose of external cooperation.
As per government’s circular, Rajamony’s appointment is part-time for one year and he will be based in Delhi.
The rank of the OSD External Cooperation would be equivalent to Chief Secretary. Rajamony will advise the State government on rules and regulations governing all engagements with foreign governments and other entities, and ‘pravasi’ issues
The OSD, External Cooperation will be responsible for liaising with the Ministry of External Affairs, foreign missions in New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and diplomatic missions abroad on various matters including those related to Indian diaspora from Kerala. He will also be responsible for follow up of foreign issues arising out of the State chief minister’s visit to a foreign country.
According to the Kerala Government, the appointment has been done in the larger interest of the State government and the diaspora from Kerala.
Since they are spread worldwide, it would be easy to address their issues, and many other general issues could be sorted in a timely manner in coordination with the central government and diplomatic missions.
