An enchanting Mushaira event marked the true celebration of poetic artistry in Muscat recently. It served as a cultural bridge, uniting distinguished poets from India and Europe.
The event was presented by Indian Social Club (ISC) Muscat in association with Al Omaniya Financial Services (SAOG).
The Mushaira, a timeless symposium of poetic expression, featured some of the most celebrated names in the world of Urdu poetry. From India, the audience was treated to the eloquent words of Farhat Ehsas, Abrar Kasif, Iqbal Ashhar, Rajesh Reddy, Mehshar Afridi, Mumtaz Naseem, and Khusboo Sharma. Their verses, a rich tapestry of emotions, thoughts, and cultural nuances, painted vivid landscapes in the minds of those in attendance.
Amit Narang, Indian Ambassador to Oman, graced the event as Chief Guest, and Aftab Patel, CEO of Al Omaniya Financial Services as Guest of Honour. They were joined by delegates from the Indian Social Club and sponsors who have been instrumental in promoting cultural exchanges between India and Oman, creating a multifaceted experience for all
Complementing these international luminaries were Muscat’s own poetic prodigies – Dr Gauhar Naqvi, Yahya Khan, and Mustafa Darwesh. Their verses, infused with local flavors and global sensibilities, added a unique and resonant touch to the evening, striking a chord with both the expatriate and local communities.
However, this evening was not solely about the poets; it was an affair graced by dignitaries and esteemed guests, lending an air of elegance and gravity to the occasion.

“The organization of such a grand event was no small feat,” remarked Tufail Ahmad, the convener of the Indian Social Club Urdu Wing. He commended the tireless dedication of the organizing committee, which included Mohiuddin Waris as the event manager, Gauhar Abbas as the co-convener, and team members Tanveer Baig, Qurratul Ain Towheed, Asif, Yahya Khan, Habib Nadim, and Moizuddin. Ahmad expressed his gratitude to the Indian Ambassador for gracing the occasion and extended his thanks to the ISC parent body, sponsors, and well-wishers. He also highlighted the unwavering support of ‘Safeer e Urdu’ Aftab Patel. “Their names would be etched forever in the history of Mushairas in the country,” he said.
For the audience, the Mushaira was an extraordinary journey through a landscape of emotions, ideas, and cultures. The magic of words transcended boundaries, uniting people from different walks of life in a shared experience of beauty, nostalgia, and sentiment.
