Boon for NRIs: UAE mulls green visa for expatriates

The green visa holders are eligible to work without corporate sponsorship. The visa holders can also sponsor their parents and children up to the age of 25 years

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is turning out be a boon for expatriates, including non-resident Indians (NRIs). The country is coming out with new visa norms to attract investors. The government is also ensuring ease of doing business in the UAE.

The latest among these steps is introduction of green visa and freelancer visa schemes to allow foreigners to work in the country without the need for employer sponsorship.

The green visa holders are eligible to work without corporate sponsorship. The visa holders can also sponsor their parents and children up to the age of 25 years.

Generally, a foreign resident the UAE can sponsor a parent, but the salary of the applicant should be AED20,000 (£3,932, $5,444, €4,608). Also, a male child above the age of 18 years is not allowed to stay in the UAE if he is not enrolled in any educational institutions.
