British Indians who won UK elections

With 107 British-Indian candidates in the fray for the 680 available seats, this election marks a significant milestone for Indians in UK

The just completed UK election has also seen a notable increase in the representation of British Indians.

The number of Indian-origin MPs, previously at 15, is expected to rise.

Rishi Sunak has retained his seat northern England but conceded defeat in general elections to Labour Party.

Among the successful candidates, Shivani Raja captured the Leicester East seat, previously held by Labour, after a closely contested race involving high-profile independents. Raja, a Leicester native, boasts an impressive academic background with First Class Honours in Cosmetic Science from De Montfort University.

In Wales, Kanishka Narayan made history by becoming the first minority ethnic MP, defeating former Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns. Narayan, originally from India, has an illustrious academic record, having studied at Eton, Oxford, and Stanford.

Suella Braverman also emerged victorious in Fareham and Waterlooville. Braverman, who was recently replaced as interior minister, retained her seat despite recent controversies surrounding her comments on the Metropolitan Police’s handling of pro-Palestine protests.
