GANESH CHATURTHI Day-2: Quick Besan Barfi

On day two of Ganapathi, the vighnaharta’s arrival, we will offer a homemade sweet, full of protein to energize us all for the festive mood amidst our busy work schedule. This recipe is prepared using Bengal gram flour (Besan) and is very easy to prepare. In terms of taste it has the potential to beat any market sweet. So let us offer this delectable homemade sweet as Ganesha’s prasadam today.

Cooking time 30 minutes.

Ingredients:

Gram flour: 100 gm

Ghee: 50 gms

Sugar: 50 gms

Milk: 150 ml. (warm)

Cardamom powder: 1 Tsp

Dry Fruits:  50 gms ( roasted and crushed)

Cooking Steps:

Heat a thick bottomed pan and add the Gram flour to it when the pan is moderately heated. Keep the flame on medium throughout. Keep stirring the flour continuously so that it is roasted evenly and no lumps are formed, until the flour turns golden brown. Now add ghee keeping one spoonful aside to be used later. Stir to mix it properly.  A rich aroma of roasted gram flour mixed with ghee will start coming. Now add sugar and cardamom powder to warm milk. Pour it slowly  into the pan and keep stirring. Make sure no lumps are formed. When mixed evenly the roasted gram flour now becomes thick like dough. 

 

Take this out on a separate plate.

 

Preparing Barfi from the dough:

Spread ghee on a dry flat plate and spread the dough evenly with the help of a spatula. Sprinkle the roasted and crushed dry fruits evenly on the dough and pat softly on the surface. Let the spread rest in the freezer for five minutes and cut them in diamond/ round/ square shape.

 Variations:

We can make layered burfi by spreading crushed dry fruits in between the layers of dough.

Instead of dry fruits we can spread roasted coconut powder/ chestnut powder over the burfi to give it exotic look.
