India’s cricketing stature and strength have steadily grown to superlative standards. And the way the boys in blue have performed so far in the ongoing ODI World Cup tournament here in India, leaves little room for doubt. And the prospects of the Rohit Sharma-led team lifting the World Cup on home turf, looms as a real possibility.

The most recent example was the devastating maner in which the  Pakistan team was demolished on Saturday, Oct 14, at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

The archrivals were made to look like an incompetent bunch of amateurs. In what turned to be a dismal no-contest.

India’s batting has developed a powerhouse quality with its depth and finesse, going al the way down to the sixth man, on occasion even beyond that. The bowling is equally formidable, whether it’s the penetrative fire and fury of pace, or the potent mix of spin with its subtle guile and cunning. And the fielding is flawless, to say the least.

As far as the bowling goes on any given day, the current pack of bowlers is like a lethat bbattering ram,  that can penetrate the defences of the world’s best batsmen. The pace battery is in rip-roaring form. As usual Jasprit Bumrah is at his lethal best, both  with the new   bball as well as the old, Then there are Mohd Siraj and Mohd. Hashmi, who can rattle the nerves of the coolst willow wielders.

The spinners  are the foxiest lot, to be sure. They cast their own spell, with thier  brand  of deception and guile..

In the debacle that Pakistan suffered on Saturday, Oct 14,   Skipper Rohit  Sharma used his five main bowler to their their fullest potential with telling results. Each  of them got an equal shar of five wickets apiece.

Saturday’s win by India, their eighth against Pakistan, stands as a singular milestone; an unbroken series of victories in World Cup cricket, that began with their first victory in 1992 at Sydney.

Exceptionally brilliant was Skipper Rohit Sharma’s blitzkrieg of boundaries. Like a juggernaut rolling on relentlessly, there’s nothing anybdy can do to stop him once he’s all revved up and in full flow.

Fans on the other side of the border, expressing shock, rage, even grief  and tears  aired  on Pakistani news channels said:“their home team was  probably not even fit to win  against the street urchins who play in the bylanes and backstreet  of Lahore”.

No matter what the opposition chose to throw at him, and undeterred by the size of the stadium, the end result was always the same – boundaries by the dozen, with the effortless ease of someone swatting flies.

In Saturday’s game at the world largest stadium, Sharma’s plunder of 86 runs off 63 balls contained six sixes and six fours.

Comentators and experts alike were awe-struck to see his sixes soar beyond 96 metres, an extraordinary display of timing, power and skill in a stadium of that size.

India finished with 192/3 (30.3 overs).  Shreyas got to his half century with a boundary, which was also the winning runs, remaining unbeaten on 53 off 62 balls.

On a batting wicket where everyone expected a total of at least 300 runs, Pakistan put in to bat first, fell to a dismal score of 191. The last eight wickets crumbled in an ignominous heap for a paltry addition of just 35 runs, from a respectable 156 for two wickects to all out at 191.

Fans on the other side of the boder expressing shock, rage, even grief  and tears  aired  on Pakistani news channel, said “their home team was  probably not even fit to win  against the street urchins who play in the bylanes and backstreet  of Lahore”.

One fan lamented that he was ashamed to call himself a Pakistani. “I would much rather prefer to be known as an Indian, because my real heroes are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. A lady expressed her gief amid tears and said: “Look at Rohit Sharma, he hit six blistering sixes as though it was nothing. Nobody on the Pakistani side  could even hist a single six”.

Many Pak fans commente with bitter sarcasm: “Perhaps the Pakistani team only went across to India, only to binge on free, Hyderabadi Biryani .

With all this and much more happening, it  has become an obvious reality that with such a perfectly  cohesive team, with a perfect blend of skill, talent, the scales are  definitely tipped in India’s favour for a thrilling ODI World Cup finish. Cheers for Team India.
