India Finalizes quota with Saudi Arabia for 2026 pilgrimage
India and Saudi Arabia have signed a landmark Bilateral Haj Agreement setting the country’s quota at 175,025 pilgrims for 2026. The accord, signed by India’s Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in Jeddah, marks a step forward in ensuring a seamless and spiritually enriching pilgrimage experience.
During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Rijiju met with the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al Rabiah, to discuss logistics, health facilities, and transportation for pilgrims. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to improving coordination and comfort for the annual journey.
- Minister Rijiju also reviewed preparations with Indian Embassy officials in Riyadh and Consulate teams in Jeddah
- He commended their efforts to streamline the visa, accommodation, and safety arrangements for pilgrims
Calling the agreement “a significant milestone in India–Saudi ties,” Rijiju shared that the pact reinforces shared values of faith and friendship. He also inspected facilities such as the Haramain Station and Jeddah Airport’s Terminal 1 to assess readiness.
The 2026 Haj quota underscores growing cooperation between the two nations, not only in pilgrimage management but also in broader cultural and economic exchanges. For India’s Muslim community, the agreement brings assurance that their spiritual journey remains well-supported and organized.
