Indian Cuisine Finds Growing Audience Across France and Europe, Opening New Export Opportunities

Rising demand for authentic Indian food and flavours is helping Indian exporters expand their footprint across European markets

Indian cuisine is witnessing a surge in popularity across France and other European countries, creating fresh opportunities for Indian food exporters and businesses seeking to expand their presence in international markets.

Industry representatives say demand for Indian food products has been rising steadily as European consumers become more familiar with Indian flavours, vegetarian dishes and traditional food practices. The trend is no longer driven solely by the Indian diaspora, with a growing number of local consumers embracing Indian cuisine as part of their regular food choices.

Speaking in Paris, Anjila Malhotra Monje, President of Anju Enterprises, said the market for Indian food products in Europe has been expanding at an annual rate of around five to seven per cent. She noted that increasing interest in diverse global cuisines, healthier eating habits and plant-based diets has contributed to the growing appeal of Indian food across the region.

  • Traditional staples such as basmati rice, lentils and pulses continue to enjoy strong demand

  • At the same time, Indian companies are seeing growing interest in ready-to-eat meals, spice blends and other convenience products tailored to local tastes

  • The use of Indian spices in fusion and contemporary European cooking is also helping introduce new consumers to Indian flavours

Food industry observers say the trend reflects broader cultural and economic ties between India and Europe. As awareness of Indian cuisine grows, exporters are finding new opportunities to reach mainstream retail and food service markets across the continent.

The expanding popularity of Indian food is expected to support India’s agricultural and processed food exports while strengthening the country’s cultural influence abroad. Industry leaders believe continued innovation, product adaptation and market outreach will be key to sustaining growth in the competitive European food sector.
