Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Indian Ambassador to the United States, underscored the global significance of the Ramayan during a recent event at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, titled ‘Ramayana across Asia and Beyond,’ reported ANI on January 10.

In his address, Ambassador Sandhu described the Ramayan as a unifying force transcending geographical boundaries, offering profound insights into the complexities of human relationships, governance, spirituality, duty, justice, sacrifice, loyalty, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. He highlighted that the lessons from this epic are ingrained in people from generation to generation, becoming an inherent part of their understanding of life.

According to Ambassador Sandhu, the Ramayan acts as a cultural bridge across the Indo-Pacific, resonating in countries from Cambodia to Indonesia, Thailand to Laos. The epic has not only been preserved but also reimagined and incorporated into various artistic, literary, and religious traditions, adapting to the unique cultural nuances of each society. He emphasized being a witness to the widespread influence of the Ramayan across international boundaries.

The occasion is expected to further emphasize the cultural and spiritual unity inspired by the timeless narrative of the Ramayan

Delving deeper into the relevance of the epic, Ambassador Sandhu emphasized its teachings on the significance of dialogue, advocating for a measured and strategic approach when collaborating with partner countries. He suggested that the Ramayan speaks to a shared humanity, underscoring the common need for ethical principles despite diverse backgrounds.

Ambassador Sandhu concluded by noting that the event holds particular importance, taking place amidst the countdown to the grand opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22. The occasion is expected to further emphasize the cultural and spiritual unity inspired by the timeless narrative of the Ramayan.
