An Indian clean-energy startup has established its first overseas battery manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom, marking a major milestone for India’s growing deep-tech and energy storage sector.

Offgrid Energy Labs has inaugurated a 10 MWh pilot manufacturing plant in Hook, Hampshire, where it will commercially produce its proprietary ZincGel battery technology. Developed in India, the long-duration energy storage solution is designed for applications such as renewable energy integration, commercial and industrial power backup, and grid-scale storage.

  • The facility represents the company’s first international manufacturing base and its transition from laboratory-scale research to commercial production

  • Company officials said the move demonstrates the global potential of Indian-developed battery technology and supports the wider adoption of sustainable energy solutions

The UK plant is expected to serve customers across Britain and Europe while enabling Offgrid Energy Labs to strengthen research, manufacturing and market partnerships in the region. The company believes its ZincGel technology offers a safer and more sustainable alternative for long-duration energy storage, an area of increasing importance as countries expand renewable power generation.

The expansion comes ahead of the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which is expected to deepen trade and technology collaboration between the two countries. Industry observers say the agreement could create fresh opportunities for Indian clean-tech companies seeking to establish a manufacturing presence in the UK.

The development also reflects India’s growing capabilities in advanced manufacturing and energy innovation. As global demand for battery storage rises alongside the transition to cleaner energy systems, Indian companies are increasingly looking beyond domestic markets to commercialise home-grown technologies internationally.

The UK manufacturing debut is expected to strengthen Offgrid Energy Labs’ global footprint while highlighting India’s emergence as a source of advanced battery technologies for the international clean-energy market.
