An Indian national was killed and two others were injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday evening, October 21, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh said on Thursday.
The attack killed two people and injured eight others, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). The other person killed was a Saudi citizen. The injured included nationals of India, Yemen, Bangladesh and Nepal, as well as a Saudi citizen. Some were reported to be in serious condition.
In a statement posted on social media, the Indian Embassy said Saudi authorities had confirmed the death of the Indian national and injuries to two other Indians.
“We are ascertaining further details and contacting the affected families,” the embassy said, expressing condolences to the family of the deceased and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
Saudi authorities said airport operations had resumed and air traffic had returned to normal. GACA is working with security agencies to assess the damage and review measures to protect passengers and airport personnel
The latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns in the Kingdom following a series of attacks on civilian infrastructure, including airports. Earlier this month, an Indian national died after an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, while several other Indians were injured.
The identity of those responsible for the Dammam attack had not been officially established in the reports available on Thursday. Further details about the circumstances of the incident were awaited.
