A fatal late-night attack on an Indian-origin delivery worker in New York has triggered a major police investigation, with authorities confirming the incident occurred within the past 24 hours. The 29-year-old victim, employed by an app-based food delivery platform, was assaulted in Brooklyn while completing an order shortly before midnight.
According to police, the worker was approached by two unidentified individuals who attempted to rob him. When he resisted, the suspects reportedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Emergency responders arrived quickly after a distress call was placed by a nearby resident, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Law enforcement officials have launched an intensive manhunt, reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding buildings and analysing delivery app data to trace the suspects’ movements

“This appears to be a targeted robbery that escalated into a violent crime,” an NYPD spokesperson said
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of gig economy workers, many of whom are immigrants working late hours in high-risk conditions. Indian community leaders have called for stronger protections, including real-time tracking systems and emergency alert features for delivery personnel.
The Indian Consulate in New York has reached out to the victim’s family and is providing assistance. Advocacy groups are urging delivery platforms to collaborate with authorities to improve safety protocols.
