Indian-origin US diplomat in India to participate in G20 conference on Womens empowerment

During her visit, Dr Gupta will meet her Indian counterparts to highlight and advance the Biden administration’s gender equality policy priorities in the region and around the world.

 

Washington: US Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Dr Geeta Rao Gupta is now in India on a week-long visit (from Aug 1-8) to participate in the G-20 conference

During her visit, Dr Gupta will meet her Indian counterparts to highlight and advance the Biden administration’s gender equality policy priorities in the region and around the world.

A US State Department official release, said Dr Rao had begun her visit from Gujarat where she will spearhead the American delegation to the G20 Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation (G20 EMPOWER) Conference.

She will also participate in the G20 Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment, the release said. Her India visit concludes on August 8, with two stops in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

The first woman of colour to hold the position, Dr.  Rao is  the fourth Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues at the US Department of State.  While in Mumbai, August 5-6, she will engage in crucial discussions with representatives from the private sector and civil society.

These discussions are geared towards understanding and shaping gender equality priorities in India, the State Department said.
