Clearing uncertainty over the holding of CBSE and CISCE Class 12 Board Exams, the Indian Government decided not to hold Class 12 board exams this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation prevailing in the country.

The decision was announced after a high-profile meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ministers from his cabinet. The meeting was chaired by PM Modi and attended by the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar and Union Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chairman Manoj Ahuja and other officials also attended the meeting.

“Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth,” said PM.

He asserted that there would be no exams this year for CBSE Class 12 students due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic across the country. The decision, he said, was taken in the interest of students.

“Health and safety of our students are of utmost importance and there would be no compromise on this aspect,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

“Anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which must be put to an end…Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation. All stakeholders need to show sensitivity for students,” it said.

Soon after the decision on CBSE, the Council for Indian School Certificate also called off its Class 12 Board Exams for this year.

COMPILATION OF RESULT

The CBSE will take the necessary steps to evaluate the students and compile the results accordingly.

“It will be based on well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner,” according to the PMO.

“It is decided that any student who is not satisfied with the assessment, an option to appear in the examination would be provided by CBSE as and when the situation becomes conducive,” a CBSE release said.
