Proposal highlights growing demand for improved global connectivity for the Indian diaspora and tourism
A delegation representing the Indian community in Kuwait has urged the Government of India to explore the possibility of launching a direct or connecting air service between India and Hawaii, describing the move as a step that could strengthen tourism, business and cultural exchanges.
The proposal was submitted to India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, during his official visit to Kuwait, where he held meetings with members of the Indian diaspora alongside bilateral engagements with the Kuwaiti leadership. The visit formed part of a wider multi-nation tour aimed at strengthening India’s partnerships in the Gulf region and engaging overseas Indians.
The memorandum was presented by members of the Indian community, who argued that easier connectivity between India and Hawaii would benefit tourists, business travellers, students and members of the global Indian diaspora. They said many travellers currently rely on multiple international connections, making journeys longer and more expensive.

The delegation also noted that Hawaii has growing potential as a destination for Indian visitors because of its tourism industry, educational institutions and business opportunities

Improved air connectivity, they said, could encourage greater people-to-people exchanges while opening new avenues for trade and investment
Community representatives further stressed that better aviation links would support India’s expanding global engagement and provide additional travel options for overseas Indians living across North America and the Pacific region.
Jaishankar’s visit to Kuwait included discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation across sectors such as trade, investment, energy, technology and people-to-people ties. India and Kuwait maintain close relations, supported by a large Indian expatriate community that plays a significant role in Kuwait’s economy.
Although no official commitment has been announced regarding the proposed India-Hawaii route, the request reflects increasing interest among overseas Indians in expanding international connectivity to emerging destinations. The proposal is expected to be examined by the relevant ministries and aviation authorities as part of broader efforts to enhance India’s global air links.
