In a shocking case of domestic violence, Raj Sidpara, a 50-year-old man, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Tarnjeet Riaz, in Leicester, England, reported m9.news.
The sentencing, delivered by Leicester Crown Court, mandates Sidpara to serve a minimum of 21 years before being eligible for parole.
The tragic incident unfolded on May 6 when emergency services were called by Sidpara himself. Responders discovered Tarnjeet, 44, already deceased, bearing severe facial injuries and multiple broken ribs.
The sentencing coincided with White Ribbon Day, an annual campaign by Leicestershire Police and other organizations to raise awareness and work towards ending violence against women and girls
The court heard that Sidpara subjected her to a prolonged and violent assault, which Judge William Harbage described as “savage and merciless,” involving punching, kicking, and stamping.
Initially, Sidpara claimed he had no intent to kill Tarnjeet, but the jury convicted him of murder following the trial. His history of violence became a focal point during the proceedings, with records revealing 24 prior convictions for 46 offenses, including harassment and threats. Sidpara’s alcohol dependence syndrome was also noted as a contributing factor.
Detective Inspector Emma Matts, speaking on behalf of Leicestershire Police, highlighted the case as a tragic reminder of the dangers of domestic abuse. She urged victims to seek support before situations escalate into fatal outcomes.
