Masked assailants targeted cinemas screening Indian films in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, prompting evacuations and treating some moviegoers for exposure to an unidentified substance. According to reports from connectedtoindia.com, the incidents occurred in three different regions on December 5, with one incident reported at a cinema complex in Vaughan around 9:20 pm.

During the incident in Vaughan, where approximately 200 people were present for a Hindi film screening, masked men sprayed an unknown substance, leading to the evacuation of the theater. Some individuals required treatment for exposure, though fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

  • The theatre was evacuated, and no injuries were reported. While the investigations are in the early stages, there is speculation about the possibility of these incidents being hate-motivated crimes, although Sergeant Clint Whitney emphasized that this aspect is still under consideration

  • The authorities are actively exploring any potential connections between the various attacks on cinemas in the region

The suspects, described as a black man with a light skin tone and a brown man with a light skin tone, managed to flee the scene before the arrival of law enforcement.

In light of these events, York Regional Police are collaborating with Peel and Toronto Police to investigate similar incidents reported during the same week. All incidents occurred within a span of three hours on the same evening, prompting authorities to explore potential links between them.

Toronto Police also responded to a call on December 5 regarding a “stink bomb” being set off in a theatre at Scarborough Town Centre. The theatre was evacuated, and no injuries were reported. While the investigations are in the early stages, there is speculation about the possibility of these incidents being hate-motivated crimes, although Sergeant Clint Whitney emphasized that this aspect is still under consideration. The authorities are actively exploring any potential connections between the various attacks on cinemas in the region.
