It is celebration time at the airport at Mexico’s biggest coastal resort, Cancun. Believe it or not, it has passed the pre-pandemic tourism mark in September!! As tourists flock to walk around Ballenas Beach there, according to the airports of the Southeast group, which runs the terminal at the Caribbean coast resort, it handled 1.66 million passengers in Cancun in September, 4.4% percent more than in the same month of 2019. In September 2020, only 854,000 passengers used the airport. The Cancun airport is now looking forward to a record number of passengers for all of 2021.
The upsurge in Covid-19 cases was seen here only post the Easter week that saw a substantial increase in travel.

The country is very focused on the fact that its tourism income should not get affected. June saw the first arrival of a cruise ship at the resort of Cozumel, south of Cancun.
The operators heaved a sigh of relief post the losses incurred during the pandemic. Quintana Roo state which depends 87% on tourism to run its economy, is home to the resorts of Cancún, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum.
