Police have launched an investigation after an overseas Indian alleged he was threatened and pressured over a disputed property in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area
An NRI has accused former Bidhannagar mayor and current civic chairman Sabyasachi Dutta of extortion and criminal intimidation in connection with a long-running property dispute in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area, prompting a police investigation into the allegations.
According to the complaint, the overseas Indian alleged that he was threatened and pressured to part with a substantial amount of money during a dispute over a property in Salt Lake. The complainant claimed the alleged intimidation was linked to attempts to settle the ownership issue in favour of others.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to extortion, criminal intimidation and other offences. Investigators have begun examining documents and statements connected to the dispute. The allegations remain under investigation, and no findings have yet been reached by the authorities.
