NRI workers to benefit from Dubai’s multiple entry visa rules

Companies no longer be able to confiscate workers’ passports in the UAE

A measure to boost economic competitiveness has direct impact on the status of the expatriate workers in the UAE.

The Dubai government has announced issuance of multiple entry visas for foreign employees working in firms based in the emirate, the Reuters reported.

“The duration of this visa will be five years. The United Arab Emirates, a federation of seven emirates, also this week made drastic changes to new private sector labour laws. With this, the companies there will not be able to confiscate the passports of the workers. These laws are going to be effective from February 2022,” the report said.

The economic slowdown in the country due to Covid-19 pandemic prompted the government to announce certain labour reforms including multiple entry visas for foreign employees.

The UAE has come out with economic and legal reforms also in a bid to compete with Saudi Arabia, which has introduced several changes in its economic and labour laws to emerge as a major trading center in the region.
