A senior police officer from Indian State of Andhra Pradesh won laurels from the Non-Resident-Indians for his act of justice and prompt action against some land grabbers, who occupied an NRI’s land, taking advantage of his absence from native place.

P Vamshi, a native of Nuzvid police station area and current resident of Canada, filed an online complaint alleging that some other villager occupied his land.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddharth Kaushal heard Vamshi’s complaint and directed the Nuzvid police to investigate the case and take action.

In his online complaint, Vamshi mentioned that some villagers were harassing his grandfather Paladugu Nagendra Kumar and trying to grab his land despite all the land documents favouring his grandfather, the Hindu newspaper reported.

The SP heard Vamshi through a video call and asked the Nuzvid police to register a case and conduct an inquiry. He asked the police officers to listen to both the parties and act on the basis of land registration and other documents. He asked the officers to register statements of both parties.

Vamshi praised the prompt action of SP Siddharth Kaushal. “Such actions discourage people with bad intentions to harass genuine people. It raises people’s faith in police machinery as well,” Vamshi said.

Many NRIs are facing such situations due to their absence from their native places. For example, Norman Hamilton, an NRI and Oman resident, facing a land grab case in his hometown Nagpur.

Taking advantage of his absence from Nagpur, some people have grabbed his land and not vacating the place despite court orders and all the valid documents with him.

After hearing about SP Siddharth Kaushal’s action, he said, “This is how the police machinery should work. I admire the police officer for his prompt action. We NRIs live far away from our native places and some local goons take advantage of this situation. They know we cannot come frequently to follow up our cases… in my case, I am not getting due support from local administration and I am suffering,” he said.
