Heightened immigration crackdown under Trump administration raises concerns for thousands of Indian nationals
More than 20,000 undocumented Indian nationals in the United States face the risk of deportation as President Donald Trump’s administration intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Despite being among the largest recipients of H-1B visas and forming the biggest group of foreign students in the US, a significant number of Indians reside in the country without legal documentation.
The Trump administration has announced strict measures on immigration from its first day in office, leading to rising anxiety among undocumented Indian nationals. Reports indicate that approximately 20,000 Indians are facing deportation under these policies.
To bolster border security and curb illegal immigration, the US government is reportedly considering deploying up to 10,000 troops along the US-Mexico border.
Trump recently stated, “I like both sides of the argument, but I also like very competent people coming into our country, even if that involves them training and helping other people that may not have the qualifications they do.”
Data from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) suggests that Honduras has the highest number of undocumented individuals facing deportation, with 2.61 lakh cases identified. According to media reports, the first deportation list includes 17,940 Indians among 1.445 million individuals with final removal orders.
With immigration policies tightening, undocumented Indian nationals in the US remain uncertain about their future, urging the Indian government and diplomatic channels to explore potential relief measures.
