Padmashri Dr. Prakash Amte visits Salalah, throws light on health, education, and environmental issues

Renowned social workers Padmshri Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte were in Salalah recently. They interacted with the Marathi Pariwar and took part in an open interview conducted by Dr. Dilip Suradkar and Ulka Kale

The Marathi Pariwar of the Indian community celebrated Maharashtra Day in Salalah, the second largest city of the Sultanate of Oman. The community members showcased the vibrant and rich culture and heritage of Maharashtra on the occasion.

Padmashri Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte, graced the occasion as a mark of an inspiring testament to the spirit of social service and community upliftment.

Honoured with Padma Shri in 2002, Dr Prakash is also the recipient of Ramon Magsaysay Award (2008).

 

The festivities commenced with traditional Maharashtrian rituals, including the Aukshan of guests and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Prakash and Dr. Mandakini Amte

 

The atmosphere resonated with fervour and enthusiasm as attendees immersed themselves in the cultural tapestry of Maharashtra.

A highlight of the celebration was an enlightening interview session with the Amtes, conducted by Dr. Dilip Suradkar and Ulka Kale.

Dr. Suradkar, a respected member of the Marathi Community, initiated the conversation, delving into the remarkable journey of the Amtes in the realm of social service, while Ulka Kale steered the dialogue towards the pivotal role of women in driving social change. The interview provided profound insights into the Amtes’ initiatives spanning healthcare, education, and environmental conservation, leaving the audience inspired and motivated.

 

Ulka Kale, known for her advocacy in women’s empowerment, directed the conversation towards the role of women in driving social change. The interview touched upon various aspects of the Amtes’ work, including their initiatives in healthcare, education, and environmental conservation.

As the celebration reached its zenith, participants showcased their talents through various cultural performances, reflecting the colorful essence of Maharashtra’s artistic heritage. Interactive sessions allowed attendees to engage with the esteemed guests, seeking guidance on pressing social issues, while a sumptuous traditional Maharashtrian feast offered a delectable taste of the state’s cuisine.

In his address, Vidyadhar Rajmane, head of the Marathi Pariwar, expressed gratitude to Dr Prakash and Dr Mandakini Amte for their presence and profound impact on the community.  Suryakant Thorat extended vote of thanks to all contributors and attendees, acknowledging their collective efforts in making the celebration a resounding success.

The Maharashtra Day celebration in Salalah, held on May 3, 2024, not only served as a platform to honor the cultural heritage of Maharashtra but also kindled a sense of social responsibility among attendees, epitomizing the spirit of unity in diversity.
