The issuance of 11.94 lakh passports in 2023 underscores the strong inclination of Punjabis towards exploring opportunities abroad. The state, renowned for its diaspora, has experienced a surge in passport applications, surpassing all previous records.

The data reveals that this surge is not confined to the youth alone; even elderly relatives of Punjabi youths settled abroad, having completed their education in foreign lands, are actively contributing to the heightened demand for passports.

This outstanding achievement not only signifies the global aspirations and connections of the Punjabi community but also reinforces their influential presence on the international stage

Over the past decade, Punjab has seen a cumulative issuance of 81.20 lakh passports, resulting in a substantial revenue influx. The fees collected for passport issuance in 2023 alone amount to Rs 179.10 crore.
