US Congressman Shri Thanedar Advocates for Enhanced Security Measures at Hindu Temples

He condemned the temple attacks and pledged to collaborate with the Homeland Security Committee to provide funds and resources for better security measures

On January 10, Congressman Shri Thanedar, an Indian-American representative, strongly denounced recent attacks on Hindu temples in the US, emphasizing the need to reject any form of Hindu phobia. Speaking at the ‘Ramayana Across Asia and Beyond’ event on Capitol Hill in Washington DC, he condemned the temple attacks and pledged to collaborate with the Homeland Security Committee to provide funds and resources for better security measures.

Thanedar expressed his concern about safeguarding religious organizations, emphasizing that religions promote love, mutual assistance, and positive actions. “We must not tolerate these attacks on Hindu temples. I am working with my committee members to enhance the ability of religious organizations to protect themselves and combat any form of Hindu phobia or hatred,” he stated, as per agency reports.

During the event, Thanedar also hailed the upcoming opening of the Ram Mandir on January 22 as a historic moment, describing it as a source of pride for every Indian. He shared his personal connection to the Ramayana epic, highlighting its cultural significance and the values it imparts.

The Thai Ambassador to the US, Tanee Sangrat, joined in praising the significance of the Ram Mandir opening, describing it as a delight for people across Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized the cultural bond represented by the Ramayana story and expressed enthusiasm for celebrating this common heritage.

The ‘Ramayana Across Asia and Beyond’ event, organized by Hindu ACTion, convened distinguished diplomats and US lawmakers at Capitol Hill on January 10. The Ambassadors of Thailand and India to the U.S., along with U.S. Congressmen Jim Baird (R-IN), Max Miller (R-OH), and Shri Thanedar (D-MI), attended the landmark gathering. Key embassy staff from Bangladesh and Guyana, along with representatives from the offices of Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Congresswoman Sarah Jacobs (D-CA), were also present.

The conference highlighted the integration of Ramayana teachings into contemporary governance, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage in modern geopolitics. Attendees praised HinduACTion for its foresight in emphasizing the Indo-Pacific region’s civilizational qualities and values, crucial for nuanced relationships with the 16 nations in the region.
