Several Indian expatriate workers were among seven people killed in a serious road accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road on Monday, according to Dubai Police and the Indian Consulate in Dubai.

The crash occurred when a minibus carrying workers collided with a truck that had reportedly come to a sudden halt in the middle of the road following a technical malfunction.

Dubai Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the truck stopped unexpectedly due to a mechanical fault. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the minibus driver allegedly failed to maintain a safe distance and did not react in time, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of the truck.

The collision resulted in seven deaths and left nine others injured. Authorities said five of the injured suffered serious injuries, while four sustained moderate wounds. All were transported to hospital for medical treatment

The Indian Consulate in Dubai confirmed that several of the victims were Indian nationals, although it did not disclose the exact number of fatalities or release the names of those involved.

In a statement posted on social media, the consulate expressed its condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and said officials had visited the hospital to meet injured Indian nationals. The mission added that it was working closely with Dubai Police, health authorities and other local agencies to provide assistance and support to victims and their families.

Dubai Police said specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence and determine the precise cause of the crash. Emergency teams secured the area, managed traffic flow and cleared the damaged vehicles to restore normal movement on the road.

The incident has drawn attention to the risks faced by many expatriate workers in the UAE, where shared transport is commonly used for travel to and from work sites.
