Several houses collapse in another landslide in Shimla; 2 bodies found, rescue operation under way

Shimla: Another landslide has razed at least eight houses, including six makeshift ones, and a slaughterhouse was buried under debris in the Krishna Nagar area of the capital town on Tuesday, August 15, a special report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu tweeted fearing the possibility of landslide, residents in the area were evacuated earlier by the administration. However, when the houses crashed into the slaughter house, there were reportedly some people working inside.

Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said, “Two bodies have been recovered from the debris so far and rescue operation is still continuing. There were over five houses that have been buried under the debris. As a safety measure, we have got the houses adjacent to the landslide site evacuated.”

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi said rescue operations were being carried out by the district administration and SDRF teams.

Meanwhile, Indian Army columns have been deployed for flood relief operations in Shimla, Fatehpur and Indora areas of Himachal Pradesh.

On Monday, two landslides had occurred in Shimla, one at a Shiva temple in Summer Hill and the other at Fagli, claiming 16 lives.

Heavy rains continue to batter Himachal Pradesh since Sunday.
