Renowned film actor Akshay Kumar has officially relinquished his Canadian citizenship and is now recognized as an Indian citizen. Having frequently faced scrutiny due to his Canadian citizenship status, Akshay Kumar took to social media to reveal his change in citizenship on the occasion of Independence Day 2023, as reported by PTI.

The constant inquiries about his Canadian citizenship led Akshay Kumar to clarify his position in the past, emphasizing that despite being a Canadian citizen, he dutifully fulfilled his tax obligations in India. The spotlight on his citizenship intensified when he refrained from casting his vote during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In 2019, Akshay Kumar addressed his foreign citizenship through a formal statement, questioning the “unwarranted interest and negativity” surrounding the matter. He stated, “I fail to comprehend the undue attention and negativity surrounding my citizenship. I have never concealed my possession of a Canadian passport. Simultaneously, it holds true that I haven’t visited Canada in the past seven years. My professional endeavors are based in India, and I dutifully contribute my taxes to the Indian economy,” he conveyed through a social media post several years ago.

Further attention was drawn when he conducted an apolitical interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi prior to the elections. Subsequently, during an event in 2019, the actor disclosed his application for an Indian passport.
