Sharad Pawar receives support from NCP’s NRI cell

To address the challenges faced by non-resident Indians (NRIs), Sharad Pawar established the ‘Nationalist Congress Department of Overseas Indian’ in 2000. The department has been working to help NRIs for several years and to facilitate better cooperation among them abroad

A majority of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLAs have joined the Ajit Pawar faction. However, all the members of the NCP Overseas Indian Cell have pledged their support to Sharad Pawar, reported punemirror.com.

The cell president in Dubai told punemirror.com that a meeting would be held in Delhi on Friday. Several NCP members from over 15 countries will attend the meeting.

It seems that Ajit Pawar, who has not been involved in national politics, is aware that these people are beyond his influence. Hence, he never tried to convince them to join his alliance. To address the challenges faced by non-resident Indians (NRIs), Sharad Pawar established the ‘Nationalist Congress Department of Overseas Indian’ in 2000. The department has been working to help NRIs for several years and to facilitate better cooperation among them abroad.

The members of this cell are working to assist NRIs in several countries worldwide, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Asian countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, North and South Europe, the United Kingdom (London), North America (Canada and the United States).

Pawar’s initiatives in the IT and manufacturing sectors have created excellent job and business opportunities for young Indians overseas. He expressed his genuine efforts to promote Pawar’s social ideologies globally

During the COVID-19 pandemic, this cell was actively involved in helping Indians stranded abroad. The assistance provided to NRIs from Maharashtra was publicly acknowledged by the NRI Indians at that time.

“To facilitate the repatriation of stranded Indians during the pandemic, officials of this cell worked extensively, including granting flight clearance for chartered flights and arranging additional quarantine and accommodation facilities upon their arrival in Mumbai. Many issues faced by them in various countries were also addressed by reaching out to Indian embassies and the Indian government,” said Abhijit Igave, the president of the department.

Igave emphasised that Sharad Pawar’s efforts for NRIs were not for media attention. When Indian women and girls were deceived and subjected to torture in foreign countries, the department promptly alerted the Indian embassy and government, resulting in successful rescue operations.
