As part of its efforts to deepen engagement with the Telugu diaspora and strengthen support systems for overseas citizens, the Telangana Government has been expanding initiatives aimed at the welfare of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs).

Over the past year, the State has taken several steps to improve outreach to expatriate communities, including the formation of an NRI Advisory Committee, enhanced grievance redressal mechanisms, and initiatives to assist migrant workers, particularly those employed in Gulf countries.

The government has also sought to establish stronger institutional linkages with overseas Telangana associations and improve support for citizens facing legal, employment or emergency-related issues abroad.

In a recent move, Telangana sent a high-level delegation to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to study welfare programmes and administrative systems developed for NRIs and migrant workers. The delegation visited Andhra Pradesh’s key institutions dealing with overseas Telugu affairs, including the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRT), Overseas Manpower Company Andhra Pradesh Limited (OMCAP) and the CID’s NRI Cell.

Led by NRI Advisory Committee Chairman B. M. Vinod Kumar, the 14-member team held discussions with Andhra Pradesh Minister for NRI Affairs Kondapalli Srinivas and senior officials on measures relating to grievance redressal, rescue operations, repatriation procedures and migrant welfare

Andhra Pradesh officials outlined the State’s mechanisms for assisting overseas residents, addressing distress cases and facilitating support for Gulf migrant workers. CID Director General of Police A. Ravishankar said the visit was aimed at providing Telangana officials with first-hand exposure to systems that have been put in place to support overseas Telugu communities.

Officials from both States described the interaction as a useful exercise in sharing best practices and strengthening inter-state cooperation on issues affecting NRIs and migrant workers. The visit is expected to inform Telangana’s ongoing efforts to enhance institutional support for its global diaspora.
