India has condemned the incident, with the Ministry of External Affairs expressing grave concern over attacks targeting commercial vessels and seafarers. The ministry said such incidents threaten international waterways and disrupt global trade and called for conflicts affecting shipping routes to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
The incident comes amid growing security concerns in several major maritime corridors, including the Black Sea, Red Sea and Persian Gulf. India has repeatedly highlighted the risks faced by Indian seafarers working on international commercial vessels.
At the United Nations General Assembly, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently warned that attacks on commercial shipping and seafarers were unacceptable. India and Liberia have also launched a 25-nation group at the UN focused on improving the safety and security of merchant shipping and seafarers.
