Two yoga instructors from Jharkhand who died in a road accident in Vietnam have been brought back to India, with their mortal remains reaching the state on October 3, officials said.

Raja Kumar of Ranchi and Vinay Kumar Rai of Jamshedpur were working as yoga instructors at the Adi Yoga Academy in Da Lat, a city in Vietnam’s Central Highlands. The two died on September 25 after the two-wheeler they were travelling on collided with a car.

According to reports, the men were returning after conducting yoga classes when their motorcycle skidded on a wet road and crossed into the opposite lane. Raja died at the scene, while Vinay succumbed to his injuries in hospital two days later.

Both had moved to Vietnam for work and were helping support their families. Raja, whose father works as an electrician, had been teaching yoga in the country for around two years. Vinay had also been living and working in Vietnam for about two years.

The families initially faced difficulties in arranging the repatriation because of the high cost involved. Friends of the deceased and members of the Indian community in Vietnam contributed towards the expenses. The Jharkhand government also coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy to facilitate the return.

  • The bodies arrived in Kolkata on October 3 and were transported to Jharkhand in ambulances provided by the state government

  • They reached the state later that day

The Jharkhand Labour Department has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the families under the Chief Minister Jharkhand International Migrant Worker Grant Scheme. The assistance is intended to provide immediate support to the families following the deaths of the two migrant workers abroad.
