As hundreds of small boats have attempted to cross borders from France to England this year, the United Kingdom has given nod to turn away the boats carrying migrants and asylum seekers to its shores.

The migrant issue has become a sensitive issue between France and England, as France put emphasis that it would not tolerate any “financial blackmail” or flouting of international law after the UK said it planned to turn back migrant boats crossing the English Channel, the Euro News reported.

“France will not accept any practice contrary to the law of the sea, nor any financial blackmail,” French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin teweeted.

“Britain’s commitment must be kept. The friendship between our two countries deserves better than posturing that undermines cooperation between our services,” he said.

England said to have been training border officials to return boats away from British waters. The action has to be swift and approaching boats have to be diverted before reaching the British waters

The war of words between the two countries began after reports of migrants from France crossing the channel in small boats this year.

Experts say the summer surge happens every year but this year it is more than normal because other channels are closed.

England said to have been training border officials to return boats away from British waters. The action has to be swift and approaching boats have to be diverted before reaching the British waters.

The practice of boat crossing into Britain was being discussed in media for a long time. It became an issue Darmanin met with his British counterpart, Priti Patel during G7 interior ministers in London on Wednesday.

Patel said to have demanded French authorities do more to stem the flow of migrants reaching UK shores.
