The 2024 Hurun India Rich List reveals the top 10 wealthiest Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), highlighting a mix of seasoned business tycoons and self-made entrepreneurs. Out of 102 NRIs featured in this year’s list, 72% have built their fortunes independently. Here’s a closer look at the top 10 richest NRIs and their achievements:
- Gopichand Hinduja and Family: Leading the list is Gopichand Hinduja and his family, who have amassed a net worth exceeding INR 1.92 lakh crore. As the heads of the Hinduja Group, they continue to dominate various sectors, from banking to automotive, while residing in London.
2. LN Mittal and Family: With a fortune of INR 1.6 lakh crore, LN Mittal and his family rank second among the richest NRIs. Mittal serves as the executive chairman of ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest steelmakers. The family resides in the UK.
3. Anil Agarwal and Family: Based in the UK, Anil Agarwal and his family have a wealth of INR 1.11 lakh crore. Agarwal is the founder and chairman of Vedanta Resources Limited, a global leader in natural resources.
4. Shapoor Pallonji Mistry: Residing in Monaco, Shapoor Pallonji Mistry oversees the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, a 157-year-old engineering and construction powerhouse. His total wealth is estimated at INR 91,400 crore.
5. Jay Chaudhry: The tech entrepreneur Jay Chaudhry, founder and CEO of the cloud security firm Zscaler, has a net worth of INR 88,600 crore. He is based in San Jose, California.
6. Sri Prakash Lohia: The founder and chairman of Indorama Corporation, a leading petrochemical and textile company, Sri Prakash Lohia has a fortune of INR 73,100 crore. He resides in London.
7. Vivek Chaand Sehgal and Family: Founder of the auto parts manufacturer Samvardhana Motherson International, Vivek Chaand Sehgal has accumulated a wealth of INR 62,600 crore. He and his family are based in Dubai.
8. Yusuff Ali MA: With a net worth of INR 55,000 crore, Yusuff Ali MA is the chairman of Lulu Group, known for its global chain of hypermarkets and shopping malls. He lives in Abu Dhabi.
9. Rakesh Gangwal and Family: The co-founder of IndiGo, India’s largest airline, Rakesh Gangwal has a net worth of INR 37,400 crore. He resides in Miami.
10. Romesh T. Wadhwani: Former chairman and CEO of Symphony Technology Group, a private equity firm specializing in technology services, Romesh T. Wadhwani has a wealth of INR 36,900 crore and resides in Palo Alto, California.
