Lower voter turnout is a matter of concern. To tackle this issue head-on, the District Administration is actively engaging with NRIs, urging them to participate in the electoral process. Block Level Officers (BLOs) are proactively reaching out to families with members residing abroad and those registered voters who abstain from voting
In a bid to amplify voter turnout, the District Administration of Moga is taking decisive steps to engage Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and new voters. Reports from yespunjab.com underscore the district’s concerted efforts towards this goal.
A recent voter awareness event held at Sukhanand village’s girls’ college marked a pivotal moment in this initiative. Kulwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Accompanying him were Harkanwaljit Singh, SDM Baghapurana, and Gill Roanta, the district’s SVEEP icon and noted lyricist, who addressed the attendees.
Kulwant Singh highlighted Moga’s substantial NRI population, estimating around 40 thousand residents living abroad. However, he lamented the underutilization of their voting rights, attributing it to the district’s comparatively lower voter turnout.

Electoral Literacy Clubs have been activated to enhance voter registration and awareness among residents. The overarching message resonating from the District Administration is a call to action, urging citizens to not only exercise their voting rights but also inspire others to bolster the nation’s democratic fabric
Moreover, a concerted effort is underway to register approximately 10 percent of the youth demographic who are yet to enroll as voters. Special registration camps are being established within educational institutions to facilitate this process.
With a target of surpassing the 70 percent voter turnout mark in the upcoming elections, the District Administration is leaving no stone unturned. Strategies include targeting IELTS centers, educational institutions, and expediting the registration process for eligible students to meet the Election Commission of India’s ‘Iss Baar 70 Paar’ objective.
In line with the commitment to inclusivity, special polling stations, such as model polling stations, pink polling stations, and those tailored for the disabled and youth employees, will be set up across all assembly constituencies to ensure seamless voting experiences. Women icons are actively involved in encouraging women’s participation, while various industries’ workers are being mobilized to exercise their voting rights.
