By establishing a presence in Abu Dhabi, IIT Delhi aims to expand its global footprint, provide world-class education to a diverse student body, and contribute to the UAE’s vision of becoming a knowledge-based economy
IIT Delhi officially inaugurated its new campus in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant milestone in the India-UAE education partnership. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, led the inauguration and welcomed the first cohort of undergraduate students. The inaugural batch, comprising 52 students, includes a diverse mix of Indian, Emirati, and international students. These students were selected through the JEE Advanced exam and the newly established Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) designed specifically for international candidates.
The students will pursue BTech degrees in Computer Science and Engineering and Energy Engineering. The opening of IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus aligns with the Vision Document launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in February 2022. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen India-UAE ties by exploring new areas of collaboration, including education and research.
The inauguration ceremony also featured the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between IIT Delhi and notable Abu Dhabi institutions, including Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Khalifa University, Zayed University, and Sorbonne University-Abu Dhabi
In January 2024, IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus introduced its first Master of Technology (MTech) program in Energy Transition and Sustainability. The inaugural MTech cohort had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Abu Dhabi in February this year, further cementing the strong educational partnership between the two nations.
The inauguration ceremony also featured the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between IIT Delhi and notable Abu Dhabi institutions, including Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Khalifa University, Zayed University, and Sorbonne University-Abu Dhabi. These agreements are expected to enrich Abu Dhabi’s academic and research environment by fostering partnerships that drive innovative research and support local startups.
Commenting on the new campus, Pradhan emphasized that the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus is a testament to the deep-rooted India-UAE friendship and reflects a shared commitment to harnessing knowledge, science, and technology for mutual and global prosperity. He noted that the establishment of the campus aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision to internationalize India’s education system, creating new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
