The Girmitiya Foundation successfully hosted the Girmitiya Mahotsav 2024 on September 28. It marked as remarkable event dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Girmitiya community while empowering future generations.

The foundation, a registered NGO in India, has long been committed to supporting Girmitiya families in tracing their ancestral roots, as well as fostering education, women empowerment, and the promotion of Bhojpuri and Hindi languages.

The event was more than just a celebration—it was a deep emotional tribute to the ancestors of the Girmitiya community, particularly poignant as it coincided with the Pitrpaksh period, a time of remembrance.

The cultural showcase was a beautiful reminder of the rich heritage of the Girmitiya community and reinforced the foundation’s mission to safeguard these cultural treasures for future generations

From the outset, attendees felt the significance of the occasion with an engaging cultural programme that included a spectacular international conference.

The conference brought together participants from institutions such as the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), Maharaja Agrasen College of Delhi University, as well as diplomats and cultural organizations like Hans Prakashan.

One of the highlights of the event was the vibrant cultural performance by the Dutch Surname Group, led by Stephen Raviendar, who captivated the audience with a traditional Baithak Gana dance.
