Indian-origin Jay Parikh takes charge of Microsoft’s CoreAI division amidst AI Expansion
Microsoft is intensifying its focus on artificial intelligence with the formation of a new engineering division, CoreAI – Platform and Tools, led by Indian-origin tech leader Jay Parikh, reported financialexpress.com.
Parikh’s appointment places him among Microsoft’s top executives, reporting directly to CEO Satya Nadella.
Parikh, who joined Microsoft in October 2024 without a formal title, takes on this significant role after his tenure as VP of Engineering at Meta (formerly Facebook) and CEO of Lacework. He will lead CoreAI, combining Microsoft’s developer division, AI platform teams, and other divisions, aiming to develop AI applications for both first-party and third-party customers.
Parikh’s Vision for CoreAI and Microsoft’s AI Future
Parikh expressed his excitement about the new role, emphasizing Microsoft’s vision to lead the AI platform shift.
Parikh’s new team will focus on building a comprehensive Copilot & AI stack, enhancing the development of AI applications, and supporting Microsoft’s push for “agentic applications.”
As Microsoft embarks on its AI journey, CEO Satya Nadella highlighted that 2025 will be pivotal, with AI models reshaping the application landscape. Parikh will work alongside other leaders at Microsoft, including Scott Guthrie, Rajesh Jha, Charlie Bell, Mustafa Suleyman, and CTO Kevin Scott.
Microsoft’s Major AI Investments and Strategic Vision
Microsoft has committed substantial resources to its AI ambitions, including a $80 billion investment in data centers and a projected $10 billion annual revenue from its AI business. The company recently made a significant $3 billion investment in India to bolster the country’s AI and cloud ecosystem.
