An Indian-origin student from Delhi, currently residing in Canada, shared his regret about moving abroad in a Reddit post titled, “I regret moving to Canada.” In his post, he opened up about the numerous challenges he has faced, including being underpaid, burdened by hefty tuition fees, and not receiving the quality education he expected, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

A Candid Reflection on Life Abroad and the Harsh Realities

The student expressed his frustrations about the Canadian government and colleges, accusing them of turning international students into a business.

He criticized the outdated curriculum at Bow Valley College and claimed that professors did little to provide value, rendering the degree almost useless in the job market

He wrote, “Without ‘Canadian experience,’ you’ll be forced into survival jobs like Uber, warehouse labor, or retail just to pay rent. Meanwhile, you’re drowning in tuition debt with no real career growth.”

The student also emphasized the financial strain of living in Canada, mentioning that rent and basic necessities were unaffordable, adding that it’s difficult to maintain a work-life balance. He stated, “Either you don’t eat, or you work for food.”

He also called out employers for exploiting international students, paying them below the legal minimum and threatening to replace them if they complain.

A Personal Warning and the Struggles of Mental Health

Apart from financial and work struggles, the student highlighted the mental health challenges faced by international students, especially when they are far from their family and friends without a strong support system. He also pointed out the difficulty in building genuine friendships or connecting with locals, as people are constantly busy.

He concluded by urging anyone considering moving abroad to think twice and consider building a career in India instead. He clarified that his post wasn’t meant to discourage people from moving abroad but to share his personal struggles.

The post sparked a wide range of reactions, with many users agreeing with his sentiments, sharing their own struggles, and offering advice to others considering life abroad.
