Housemaid claimed gram panchayat in northern Bengaluru issued her the document despite being a foreign national
A Nepali national was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru after immigration officials found her carrying an Indian voter ID card. The incident has sparked an investigation into how a foreign citizen obtained official Indian identity documentation, reported deccanherald.com.
The accused, identified as Rekha, arrived at KIA around 5 PM on July 10. She successfully cleared immigration by showing an Indian voter ID, but was later asked to furnish additional identification. At this point, she also presented a Nepalese national identity card, leading officials to raise a red flag.
The woman, working as a housemaid in Bengaluru, produced both an Indian voter ID and a Nepalese national ID, prompting suspicion and legal action
When questioned, Rekha claimed that the voter ID had been issued by gram panchayat officials in Hunasamaranahalli, a locality in northern Bengaluru where she has been working as a housemaid.
The international airport police have registered an FIR and launched a probe into the origin of the voter ID. Authorities are now investigating whether the document was forged, illegally issued, or obtained through misrepresentation.
The case has reignited concerns over identity fraud, potential security loopholes, and the role of local officials in issuing sensitive government documents to non-citizens.
